BEAT-IT WEEKEND AWAY - BrEAThe IT, Lekker Luchtig Day 2
Saturday, 22 May 2010
“CALL ON MEEEEE” blasted out of the stereo inside the tent early (9.30am) that morning. Chased out of bed by Rene, everyone had five minutes to wake up and get ready for the morning exercise. We had a long day ahead. After cleaning up the mess from the night before and enjoying a deluxe breakfast, everyone was split up into teams. Each team gathered their creative energies and managed to produce the most inspiring flags to represent their group: Team 1 was inspired by the nature that surrounded and drew a magnificent tree and sun. Team 2. Team 3 drew a self portrait, showing their ‘free-spirited’ selves. Team 4 had the most colourful flag, filling out every spot available (and probably using the most paint). Team 5 decided to draw frogs, we might never know why but they were very cute, nevertheless. With bright new flags in hand, everyone was dropped off at the Drunense Duinen, ready for the ‘Speurtocht’. what a beautiful 'rups' :)
We are glad to report that no one went missing (at least not for too long) and that everyone survived the wilderness, crossing dangerous lakes and climbing the highest trees. After a well deserved and maybe somewhat late lunch at the water, we returned to the beat-it base camp to freshen up and start the BBQ. As usual the salad and bread was ready before the meat but with some dedication and beer as fuel, we were munching away on some delicious chicken, sausages and speklapjes in no time.
As the sun went to bed and the moon came out to join us at our second fire, we started off the ‘Bonte Avond’ with a blast by Irene and Saar sharing our potential new club song. What a site as we shook our butts and sang of our love for rackets and balls. Shortly after that, the WC presented their own interpretation of the fairy tale ‘Little Red Ridinghood’: red riding hood as a vixen and a wolf with a split personality. We continued with the 2010 version of ‘Summer of 69’ by Team 3. Team 4 presented a witch who managed to turn Roos into a Rose with ‘transformeren, transformeren, transformeren’. Team 1 and Team 5 joined forces and showed us some interesting and thought-provoking improv moves. Team 2 ended the evening with a game show featuring the infamous Francois Sommelier who likes to go on vacation in Kafkaesk.
To experience the heat, you have to get closer to the fire…which is exactly what we did. With drink in hand, deep conversations were born and very soon the werewolves came out to play. Rumours have it they were out scaring the citizens until the very early hours of the morning, some say the last went to bed as the sun was rising and some didn’t even sleep at all. around the fire
